We’re delighted to present a new season of theatre, comedy, dance, family shows and more – welcome to Autumn and Winter at the Old Fire Station! We asked the staff what they’re most looking forward to…
Becca Vallins, Deputy Director
“Birdhouse. The first time I saw Hitchcock’s The Birds I did not sleep. Far more scary than Psycho any day. I have never looked at a bird in the same way since. I think I know how those women in the Coronet cinema feel…..can’t wait to see if I’m right.”
Birdhouse: Sat 10 Oct, 8pm. £12, £10.
Rowan Padmore, Front of House Manager
“I’m really looking forward to The Forest, a show created especially for teenagers and adults with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities. With an audience of only 6 people (+ carers/companions) this promises to be a very special experience indeed.”
The Forest: Thurs 8 Oct, 1.30pm.
“I saw comedy horror He Had Hairy Hands in Edinburgh last year, and loved it – so I’m hugely excited to see it again. Fans of League of Gentleman or Welcome To Night Vale, this is the show for you!”
He Had Hairy Hands: Thurs 5 Nov, 7.30pm. £12, £10.
Megan Dawkins, Front of House
Co-Ordinator
“I am a huge fan of local musician Adam Barnes and already have my ticket to be serenaded by his incredible vocal chords! He’s got some great support as well, so it should be a really good gig.”
Adam Barnes + Chris Ayer: Thurs 1 Oct, 7pm. £9.
Jack Eden, Exhibitions Co-Ordinator
“Blue Stockings looks really interesting, and the company have a good reputation. I had no idea that women in the Victorian era could study but not graduate – I look forward to finding out more…”
Blue Stockings: Tues 22 – Sat 26 September, 7.30pm (+2.30 on Sat). £15, £12.
“We have so much amazing comedy to choose from (and Joe Lycett has already sold out!). Stand-up comedian Phil Buckley sounds great – anyone who has supported The Boy With Tape On His Face must be good.”
Phil Buckley’s Big Idea: 12 November, 8pm. £10, £8.
Harriet Peacock, Retail Coordinator / Marketing Assistant
“I’m looking forward to the latest offering from SatMatCo, Distractingly Female, about a pair of non-identical twins, Jake and Jen, and the struggle their parents face to bring them up without gender bias. The other SatMatCo show I saw back in January was great, and a play about gender sounds right up my street!”
Distractingly Female: Saturdays 3, 10 & 17 October, 12.30pm. Book a free ticket, then pay what you can.
Sarah Mossop, Visual Arts Programme Manager
“I’ve only recently come across the work of Jayne Wilton, which explores the act of breathing, something so ephemeral and yet wonderfully beautiful when materialised in drawings, videos and sculptures. I hope you’re intrigued now! Do come and see her exhibition And Breathe… – and meet the artist too at her workshop on Saturday 3rd October.”
And Breathe…: Fri 2 Oct – Sat 14 Nov. Open Tuesday – Saturday, 11am-6pm. Free.
Josh Tomalin, Technical Manager
“I’m looking forward to Sound I’m Peculiar, brought here by some of the same people behind the fantastic Audiograft festival. It’s fun, experimental audio for geeks who like weird sounds.”
Sound I’m Peculiar: The first Tuesday of every month (starting 6 Oct), 7.30pm. Free.
“As someone who likes to think they are a super sleuth – a cross between Miss Marple, Pirot and Sherlock Holmes- it seemed elementary that The Serial Killer Formula was the show for me. So join me, spy glass, quizzical look and interesting hat at the ready and lets work out who dunnit!”
The Serial Killer Formula: Tues 22 October, 8pm. £8, £5.
