Collaborative film projects, bold and brilliant prints, delicate Chinese paintings and ephemeral drawings…there’s a lot to see in Oxford this Autumn! Intern Freya has been undercover in Oxford’s galleries, uncovering the best of what’s to come.

Modern Art Oxford, 5 September to 20 DecemberFilm Studio
Film Studio
This is a really exciting opportunity to get involved in creative film making. Local organisations will be taking on the Project Space, screening their work, giving talks and offering soundtrack, directing and set building workshops (make sure you don’t overlook what’s happening on the wall). Young Women’s Music Project will be creating a new film documenting the changing wall installation, workshops and events whilst also ‘exploring how creativity and self-destruction go hand in hand’: sounds intriguing! The Old Fire Station, 2 October to 14 NovemberBreathe Wilton
And Breathe… (Jayne Wilton)
We are encouraged increasingly to be ‘mindful’ and ‘present’ in our lives but who really has time to just sit and breathe? Wilton uses inventive mark making to explore just that: the simple act of breathing.  Perhaps use this exhibition as a place to focus on your breath, relax and allow yourself a meditative few moments. Also her etched copper plates are truly gorgeous! Find out more.

Claire Christie Jam FactoryJam Factory – Restaurant Gallery, 23 September to 26 October
Imagine (Claire Christie Sadler)
Claire Christie Sadler’s unassuming charcoal drawings appear ghostly and abstracted, they invite questioning and reflection, some carry an air of sadness about them. Based on the work of the imagination they seem to say ‘anything is possible, nothing is certain, there is no answer and you can’t understand’. I urge you to see them for yourself. Find out more

Hetty Haxworth
Haxworth’s abstract colourful prints are fun and easy to admire, if you don’t fancy a conceptually challenging exhibition, this is the one for you. The vibrancy of these multi-layered prints is something you have to see in the flesh. Find out more.

Society of Wood Engravers 78th Annual Exhibition
Another print exhibition not to miss. This will be a glorious medley of figurative, abstract and landscape prints using traditional woodcut techniques. You’ll be amazed at the daintiness of some of the engravings and wowed by the boldness of others. Find out more.
