Cowley Road Carnival has grown over 15 years to be the biggest cultural community event in the region, celebrating the rich diversity of culture in our city. Cowley Road Works charity, producer of the Carnival, has commissioned photographers, with the help of Oxfordshire Arts Weeks and Arts at the Old Fire Station, to capture the colour and diversity of our City’s big celebration on 10 July. Come and relive Carnival through their eyes, and see if you can spot people you know from this year’s event, and in accompanying images by Irmgard Huppe of Carnival over its history on Cowley Road.
Irmgard lives near the Cowley Road and has been recording Carnival through her lens over many years. She works as a learning technologist at Oxford Brookes University, having worked previously in publishing, authoring, translating and teaching. She is interested in all things visual, and has been taking photographs since childhood.
