At the Old Fire Station, Marmalade is a key part of our programming. Throughout the year, we host events, and discussions and share resources. The Marmalade work is coordinated by a group of residents, workers and managers from a range of organisations across Oxford focusing on experimentation through three different ‘inquiries’.
The point of each inquiry is to create a space for people to explore and change, to challenge dominant ways of thinking that may be perpetuating systems of oppression, and to showcase alternative ways of doing things.
Once a year, we host a festival to celebrate, challenge and make plans. In 2023 over 2,000 people signed up to 78 different sessions over four days, most if which took place to the Old Fire Sation. Sessions ranged from presentations to workshops to cultural activity and social gatherings and attracted people from all over the world and all over Oxford.
During the next edition of the festival (9-12 April 2024), we’d like to invite an artist or collective to contribute to the exhibition and gallery space which will support many of the events during the festival. We’d like a mural on the tall back wall of the lower gallery to be filled with colour; inspiring and captivating visitors, and getting them excited about the festival. The work will remain in the gallery until 25 May.
There is an artist fee of £1000, with an additional materials budget of up to £200. The deadline to apply is 8 February 2024, please see the full brief below or Download Here
