Tom McIntyre is an emerging visual artist based in Reading, whose work can be seen as the combination of hard-edge geometric abstraction and gestural abstract expressionism. McIntyre began his practice as largely self-taught, working for two years, before undertaking an undergraduate art program at Reading School of Art. Within the years that he has been working, McIntyre has cultivated skills across a variety of mediums, including painting, printing and mixed media works.
In the early stages of his practice, McIntyre experimented largely with collage and drawing, which then segued into his larger canvas works, which stylistically draw from abstract expressionism and geometric abstraction. With the influence from artists such as Frank Stella and Gerhard Richter, McIntyre has aimed to combine these two styles, to create his own niche of abstract works.
