Technique class:

The class will combine elements of release, floorwork & improvisation playing with extremes of highs and lows, relating to dynamic situations outside the studio and using the memory of those qualities to create dynamic movement and fluidity. Focusing on understanding body mechanics, the use of breath and finding a sense of space in the body we will recognise the element of “flow” or “being in the flow”.

Choreographic workshop:

Georgia will lead a session sharing methodologies of her practice “dance-as-design”, an expanded/interdisciplinary approach to choreography which blurs the boundaries of dance with other visual and spatial arts. It is Inspired by concepts found in architecture, sculpture, fashion and visual art. We will look at using ‘design as a process’ in choreographic composition as well as ‘design as a product’ aiming for results that prioritize the visual experience.

Bio:

Georgia Tegou’s choreographic work has been presented and supported by Arts Council England, Dance Umbrella, The Venice Biennale of Architecture, Onassis Stegi, Sadler’s Wells, The Place, ZfinMalta National Dance Company, Studio Wayne McGregor, Royal Academy of Music, The Whitechapel Gallery, the Greek National Opera amongst others.

She has choreographed two music videos for Róisín Murphy. Tegou was awarded a OneDanceUK Choreographers Observership and worked with Royal Opera House movement director and choreographer, Kate Flatt. In 2021 she was invited to exhibit a performative installation at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition / La Biennale di Venezia hosted by the Cyprus Pavilion co-directed with Michalis Theophanous. She was a Choreodrome 2021 artist at The Place, a Studio Light Moves / Open Futures resident artist at Dance Limerick and Light Moves Festival of Screendance and she is currently an artist in residence at Somerset House Exchange.

Her work ‘Reverie’ is opening the 2022 Dance Umbrella Festival and ‘Underwater’ will be presented in Oxford on the 22nd of October.

When and where to arrive:

The Old Fire Station has three entrances, we would advise you to use the entrance on George Street which will take you directly to the reception area.

We would recommend arriving about 30 minutes before the workshop start time. There are changing rooms on site, a member of Pro Dance Oxford will be around should you need anything, and the Arts at Old Fire Station Café do an amazing cup of coffee!

Suggestions for Lunch:

Oxford has an incredible independent food and drink community including the wonderful Damascus Rose Kitchen who are based out of the Arts at The Old Fire Station Café (The falafel wrap is our favourite!)

The Gloucester Green Market also has an amazing range of street food stalls and is open Wednesday-Saturday – it also is on the doorstep of The Old Fire Station if you use the Gallery Entrance!
