Rafa Borja’s ceramics question perceived ideas of masculinity. In response to many years spent working with different fathers as a community family worker, each flower – a motif traditionally associated with the feminine – represents a different man from his acquaintance, showing them at different stages of life; intimate, personal, and vulnerable.
The space will be transformed into a rainforest of these beautiful entities. Underneath the canopy, a larger than life replica of the pergola in his garden, which became a sanctuary during the 2020 pandemic lockdown.
As an artist in residence and tutor at Oxford City College, Rafa has developed his craft and explored unexpected results created with clay and glaze. We are pleased to be presenting this new and ambitious work in his first show in 15 years.
