We are a charity and social enterprise in the heart of Oxford, offering a range of performances and exhibitions for everyone, support for emerging artists and building confidence and opportunities for homeless people.
We are delighted that you are interested in volunteering with Arts at Old Fire Station. We are looking for people who are reliable, welcoming and enthusiastic, and who support our vision. We will provide you with the training needed.
We offer a volunteer experience that gives you the flexibility to give your time when it suits you. So, whether it’s to connect with new people, share or learn skills, to give something back or just to indulge your love of theatre and Arts – we hope there is a place in the team for you!
We are recruiting for:
Front of House Volunteers (ushers)
“…there is nothing better for handling a bad day at work, or maybe difficult situations or whatever, that you come in here, you don your black t-shirt, you take your tickets, smile, you welcome people in, you sit down, you enjoy a show and your mind is totally off what is going on outside, and it gives you that breathing space of — and then you come out and things look in a different perspective at times, and the stresses of the day dissipate into those lights as it were.” – Tricia, Volunteer
Our theatre hosts a wide variety of performances, across theatre, music and comedy. This role is in the friendly Front of House team. It involves welcoming audiences to the theatre on show nights, therefore most shifts are in the evening, with some matinees at weekends.
‘It’s been great fun. I’ve been very lucky, got to see everything I wanted to – from big names to acts I had never heard of!’ – Volunteer
Some of the benefits!
- Our volunteer ushers get to see the show for free – allowing you to try something new, keep learning about theatre whilst enjoying a night out!
- We offer to reimburse the cost of your travel and will provide you with a volunteer lanyard and a free soft drink on every shift.
- We hold socials, training opportunities and routinely offer free tickets to shows.
