Harriet Poppy Speed graduated from Rycotewood Furniture Centre with a First Class Honours degree in Furniture Design and Make in August 2018. She has since worked for established furniture company, Ercol, based in Princes Risborough, as a Furniture Design Engineer, in addition to managing projects and delivering workshops as part of THIS GIRL MAKES.

She combines her background in illustration with a love for making with natural materials, to produce work that encourages others to assert more value on curiosity and play through the objects they use. She strives to redefine traditional archetypes of furniture in a playful and honest way. Her broad body of work provides opportunities to pass on practical skills and knowledge, as well as opening up new channels for discussion.

Her enthusiasm and wide skill set have rewarded her with many exciting opportunities. The most significant of which have been attending the LINLEY Summer School in August 2017, being shortlisted for the Wood Awards student category in 2017, and recently winning Best in Show at the 2018 Young Furniture Makers Exhibition.
