Julia’s work as an educator focuses in (re)nourishing people’s approach to image-making, encouraging play and experimentation via collages, drawings, and printmaking. They set up and run Common Books, a printing press and collaborative project working across different community groups and institutions in Oxford, facilitating the making of printed matter and the use of alternative methods to create images. Local groups include the Young Women’s Music Project, My Normal, The Old Fire Station, The Bodleian Library and the Ruskin School of Art.
Their visual work is interested in playing with perceptions of the ‘refined’ and ‘unrefined’, and what lies outside the aesthetics of a western lens.
