Volunteer

We are a charity and social enterprise in the heart of Oxford, offering a range of performances and exhibitions for everyone, support for emerging artists and building confidence and opportunities for homeless people.

We are really excited that you are interested in becoming part of the Arts at Old Fire Station team through volunteering. We offer a volunteer experience that gives you the flexibility to volunteer when it suits you. So, whether it’s to connect with new people, share or learn skills or to give something back, there are loads of ways you can become part of our organisation.

Volunteer in the theatre

Our theatre hosts a wide variety of performances, across theatre, music and comedy. Come and volunteer as an usher and see the shows for free!

‘It’s been great fun. I’ve been very lucky, got to see everything I wanted to – from big names to acts I had never heard of!’ – Volunteer

Volunteer in the shop

Our shop supports independent artists and makers and runs as part of our social enterprise. Help to sell original arts and crafts from local artists, be creative with displays and interact with the public.

Or…

We also have a whole range of one-off events and festivals that rely on the help of volunteers. At times, the events can offer other volunteering opportunities including admin or technical support, fundraising, marketing and publicity.

About you

We ask for our volunteers to be reliable, thoughtful and enthusiastic. We will provide you with all the training you need to volunteer with us, though some of our roles may require basic competence in customer care or IT.

Some of the benefits!

If you volunteer with us 10 times, you will receive 2 free tickets to an Old Fire Station performance or gig of your choice! We will cover the cost of your travel and provide you with a volunteer t-shirt and a free soft drink on every shift. All volunteers also receive 10% discount in our shop for every month that they volunteer. We also hold events and socials, giving you the opportunity to get to know us and other volunteers better, tell us what you think and develop our volunteer programme with us.

Marmalade volunteers

What is Marmalade?
Marmalade is a 4-day conference in which social change and friendship collide. Running from 3 – 7 April, Marmalade is the informal, dynamic, free and open-access fringe event to the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship.

Why volunteer for Marmalade?
Marmalade needs volunteers passionate about social justice to make it the event the world needs right now.
Volunteering at Marmalade is a chance to be part of something that aims to address these issues both locally and globally.

Volunteer Stewards – What is the role?

  • welcoming speakers and participants
  • setting up rooms
  • fire evacuation – should we need to
  • a commitment to three half days (5 hours a day) or two full days (up to 8.5 hours a day)
