Oxford Opera Youth Company
Q: What is Opera?
A: “It is the human story, told in the most incredible way, set to the most amazing music.”
Based in the heart of the city at The Old Fire Station, every Saturday during term time, Oxford Opera Youth Company is a vibrant group of young people who work in two age-specific groups, allowing everyone to explore their own creativity, learn new skills and make new friends with shared interests.
Led by our expert team of facilitators the weekly sessions look at the wide range of skills that go into making opera – storytelling, singing, stagecraft, movement, composition and even stage combat! This is a unique opportunity to get to know this fabulous art form from all angles! You will explore well-loved opera repertoire, but also explore creating new and exciting pieces as a group. We will be working towards a fantastic gala concert at the Sheldonian Theatre, on March 1st 2026, “Kids Go Classical!”. The concert will be a collaboration with the Oxford Chamber Orchestra, led by our own Musical Director, John Warner and feature our Artistic Director and founder, Stuart Pendred. The Youth Company will not only sing but will also guide the audience through the repertoire, introducing the pieces and bringing them to life!
Don’t forget: we have sibling discounts and bursary places available on request!
