Artist Sasa Cheung has produced a series of automatic drawings. Working without a preconceived image, Sasa draws intuitively, allowing her unconscious to guide each mark. Her process has been informed by an interest in the psychological theories of Carl Jung, particularly his ideas about the unconscious mind and creative intuition.
Having never drawn as a child, Sasa’s art practice began after attending a lecture that sparked an unexpected creative impulse, an urgent need to draw. With no physical art materials to hand, she turned to the digital paint application on her computer. The experience was transformative. She soon invested in drawing materials and has continued to make art ever since.
Sasa creates prolifically, making a drawing every night. This daily ritual has become an essential part of her wellbeing. She often draws just before bed, believing that transferring the energy of her day onto the page helps her unwind and enter a calm, peaceful state for sleep. Sasa feels strongly about the positive impact creative expression can have on mental health and emotional balance.
Alongside her artistic practice, Sasa works in the finance team at the Old Fire Station, where she is also recognised as a gifted and dedicated Artist.
