Iraqi Women Art and War CIC

Sustainable Fashion Exhibition

This exhibition highlights not only the beauty and craftsmanship of sustainable fashion but also the strength and solidarity of women using art as a tool for healing and empowerment.

Iraqi Women Art and War CIC (IWAW) created this sustainable fashion show in 2024 in collaboration with Cherwell Collective

In this display, members of IWAW share their personal stories and advocate for women’s rights through a powerful display of handmade garments. Each piece reflects lived experiences, cultural identity, and the resilience of women affected by war and displacement.

Some dresses were inspired by the Iraqi artist Nada al-Rawi, with final artistic touches on certain pieces completed by Rana Ibrahim.

IWAW is an Oxford-based Community Interest Company that supports women from diverse backgrounds who have experienced the impact of conflict. Through creative expression— fashion, collage, storytelling, and textile art—participants are given a platform to process their experiences, connect with others, and share their voices publicly.
