Women at the HeArt is a Thames Valley Partnership project, building on our past experience of using the arts with vulnerable groups. It seeks to give women who are dealing with challenging issues more control over their lives, identifying ways of empowering them through the use of creative activities and reconnecting them with their families and communities. The project focuses on women with complex and unmet needs and offers innovative, creative, cost-effective methods of intervention which can open doors and give women greater access to support services.
Women at the HeArt provides training and support in running creative sessions for professionals who work alongside vulnerable women, enabling staff to gain extra ‘tools in their tool box’ which they can use when engaging with these women and also runs a mentor scheme for up and coming artists. The project takes place across the Thames Valley and has been working in conjunction with Crisis at the Old Fire Station in Oxford to produce a wide variety of creative pieces exploring women and their lives. The project is funded by Arts Council England and The Monument Trust.
