Following the enforced closure of the The Spin jazz club in March 2020, The Spin is delighted to announce a new collaboration with Oxford’s arts centre, the Old Fire Station.
This new team is putting together a short series of top-notch, filmed concerts – performed in the OFS’s lovely black-box theatre. There will thereafter be a stunning programme of live gigs – news of this to follow.
We present the Oxley – Meier band of five virtuosi musicians in a special streamed concert*. Led by two guitarists with 40 critically-acclaimed CDs of original music to their names, this gig will feature their scintillating compositions, taking the listener on an aural journey – via their soundscapes – from Turkey to Brazil, .
Using ten different guitars, their music employs multi colours and layers, bringing out anything from deep grooves to lushly harmonic ballads.
Of their last album (with this very quintet), guitar maestro Ralph Towner (of the group ‘Oregon’) wrote:
“This album is a wonderful example of the high level of music that can be made by combining two great guitarists/composers/improvisers such as Pete and Nicolas. They have put together a feast of virtuosity, delivered with depth, wit and joy”.
This concert will be beautifully filmed and recorded; it will be introduced by The Spin’s first ever guest, John Etheridge.
Pete Oxley ~ guitars
Nicolas Meier ~ guitars
Raph Mizraki ~ basses
Paul Cavaciuti ~ drums
Keith Fairbairn ~ percussion
* Once tickets have been purchased (from the OFS), you will be given a link to the Youtube broadcast.
